Mission Generator: Character Assessment Experience

The Goal
Transform a simple five-question responsive experience into an interactive journey that feels as if you’ve stepped onto the bridge of a starship.
Every design decision was rooted in evoking the sleek, futuristic aesthetic of Star Trek’s LCARS interface—clean lines, bold color blocks, and tactile feedback inspired by the control panels beloved by fans. The navigation was intentionally minimal, echoing the discipline and clarity of real Mission Control environments, while micro-interactions and transitions mimicked the responsiveness of starship consoles. Shapes, iconography, and color palettes borrowed from the Mission Control legacy, reinforcing a sense of authenticity and belonging for users steeped in Trek lore.

To heighten engagement, the questionnaire’s language and tone were crafted to echo the voice of Starfleet—direct, optimistic, and mission-focused. Each question dynamically altered the interface, with new layouts and visuals unfolding based on user choices, simulating the adaptive nature of a real mission briefing. This branching logic not only delighted users but reinforced the feeling of agency and exploration central to both Star Trek and interactive design.

Deliverables
  1. Wireframe
  2. User Flow
Challenges
  1. To experience interactive content that feels meaningful, immersive, and personalized.
  2. To engage with media that reflects her passions and invites her to play an active role in storytelling.
  3. To explore digital experiences that showcase thoughtful, futuristic design rooted in narrative and purpose.

Strategy
Design a clean, minimal UI that still manages to evoke a sense of drama and futuristic purpose. Infuse a responsive, tactile feedback that mimics the look and feel of sci-fi control panels. Use language that respects the lore—mission briefings, not error messages
Approach
Give a UI that makes you feel like you’re prepping for warp speed—not filling out a tax form.
Research & Content Analysis
To improve the user experience, we designed a short questionnaire with a maximum of 5 questions. This concise format helps keep users engaged and significantly increases the likelihood of higher completion rates. Additionally, we included a “Skip to End” button in the top right corner, allowing users to opt out of the questionnaire and proceed with the experience if they prefer. This approach respects users’ time and gives them control over their journey.
Results
Our process began with deep research into sci-fi UI, drawing inspiration from Star Trek’s visionary art direction.  The result was a five–question experience where every answer triggered a unique visual response, complete with new imagery and layout shifts—mirroring the unpredictability and excitement of space exploration.

The smallest details in user interaction like timing, feedback, and visual cues are critical for immersion. Visual storytelling tools, such as branching charts and annotated flows, proved essential for communicating and selling the narrative arc of the experience to stakeholders. Ultimately, the art direction transformed a functional questionnaire into a voyage, inviting every user to become a part of the crew.
